ICAN Wins Prestigious NATI Innovation Award
At the recent 2004 NATI Achievement Awards Gala, ICAN was awarded the NATI
Innovation Award. This annual award is "presented to a technology company
that has demonstrated outstanding innovation in its approach to developing and /
or expanding products or services, penetrating new or existing markets, or
sustaining a successful corporate organization."
It is with great pride that ICAN accepts this award, especially given the
quality of other nominees in this category. For a company whose customers are
primarily outside of the province in various government agencies around the
world, it is a real honour to be recognized by our peers at home.
Accepting the award on behalf of ICAN was Brian Whiteway, Vice President and
Chief Financial Officer of ICAN Limited. “We are delighted to have been
chosen as this year’s recipient of the NATI Innovation Award. It is a testament
to the excellent team that we have here at ICAN. It is particularly satisfying
to see the technology community recognize our efforts as well.”
ICAN is a world leader in the delivery of Automatic Identification Systems (AIS),
which significantly enhances communications and safety at sea. Since September
11, 2001, this has become a key priority for most marine governing bodies. ICAN
is also developing a next-generation 3-D component for integration into its
existing software products in pursuing a new era in marine navigation.
Other awards were also presented to Kevin Fleming of the Plato Group, who
received the NATI Leadership Award (presented to the executive of a member
company whose creative vision and business insight has been instrumental in the
success of the company), and Rutter Technologies who received the NATI
Achievement Award: Company of the Year (presented to a Newfoundland and Labrador
company which has distinguished itself as a leading edge, quality technology
company with recognized excellence and an unblemished reputation for its quality
products and services).
ICAN designs and implements sophisticated navigation and communications
systems, including the Regulus and Aldebaran family of electronic charting
products. The company also provides marine communications infrastructure for
AIS and Differential GPS (DGPS), including consulting services, system design,
and project management. With partners such as Lockheed Martin, Saab
TransponderTech, Northrop Grumman, Rutter and HITT, ICAN provides world-class
solutions to maritime administrations, ship owners, fishing enterprises and the
world’s navies. For more information please visit us at
