Database Developer / Administrator

ICAN has recently been awarded a number of projects which involve large scale database backend design and development for nation-wide AIS Network infrastructure. Massive real time transactions for storage and querying will be required. The spatial databases will be geographically dispersed across a large region with a number of central collection databases.

As a database developer / administrator you must have a solid working knowledge (minimum 2yrs) of the following:

  • Data modeling, database design

  • Object-oriented analysis and design techniques

  • System architecture, including database and system performance tuning, as well as hardware and network workload balancing

  • Database administration

  • An understanding of the implementation language and environment.

As a bonus, the ideal candidate will also have experience with:

  • Oracle Spatial or Locator for spatial databases

  • Microsoft SQL Server with spatial add-on support

Software Engineers

Systems Engineers / Product Managers / Business Analysts

Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze and document user's requirements and develop Project Requirements Documents (PRD), acknowledging technical, schedule and cost constraints;
  • Examine product feature requirements and their feasibility - gather estimates of required development time and prioritize features lists;
  • In cooperation with internal staff, develop proposal documents based on customer specifications and/or requirements for both hardware and software solution;
  • Handle product and proposal questions from customers, dealers/distributors, and internal staff;
  • Design and recommend graphical user interface requirements for new and existing features.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or engineering;
  • Some experience in systems analysis, data administration, software engineering, network design or computer programming;
  • An exceptional customer focus;
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate directly with technical and business groups at all levels, being conversant in the technical, business and management issues;

Technical Support Representatives

This role is active in conducting technical support and engineering activities related to product testing and customer support and setting and exceeding quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Sales Representative

Description:

This technical sales position requires a person with experience in the marine Electronic Charting System (ECS) market who can develop sales leads, work with the potential client through the sales cycle and provide installation and technical support after the sale.

Responsibilities:

  • Initiate sales campaigns and follow ICAN marketing guidelines to meet sales expectations.
  • Identify new business leads through trade show and conference attendance, monitoring of federal business opportunities websites, and leads provided by existing clients.
  • Contact new and existing customers to discuss their needs and explain how these needs could be met using ICAN products and services.
  • Develop and deliver proposals and quotations to customers. Proposals can range in complexity from a simple commercial off the shelf software sale to the development of a sophisticated data collection, routing and display solution.
  • Make presentations at conferences and tradeshows.
  • Demonstrate and explain operation and use of ICAN software products.
  • Arrange for installation and test evaluation of software systems.
  • Inform customers of estimated delivery schedules and warranty programs.
  • Provide after sales support.
  • Provide telephone, e-mail and onsite technical support.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environment Studies, Geography or a related major.
  • Five years of experience as a Geographer, Hydrographer, Product Manager, Sales Manager or a related occupation in the electronic charting systems field.
  • Must be willing to travel on a regular basis and work in environments ranging from ocean-going vessels to office buildings.
  • Employee may work from home anywhere within the United States.
  • Extensive travel throughout the United States is required.
