Navigational Aids Module
[Online Demo]

ICAN's NavAids Module integrates with the Aldebaran II & Regulus II Electronic Charting Systems to facilitate management of aids to navigation, and enhance the process of buoy tending for vessels of all sizes. The NavAids module is a part of our solution for Maritime Administrations & Coast Guards. Based on an underlying Microsoft Access database, the NavAids Module provides both text based information and real time visualization of marker buoys and other aids to navigation. Integration with current generation positioning systems facilitates significant improvements in the accuracy and repeatability of placements.

  • Comprehensive database and edit windows to manage basic buoy data and service details, including historical service information.

  • Import/Export feature to facilitate movement of data between vessels, and from ship to shore.

  • The NavAids Module can be customized to country specific requirements including integration with external database systems. For instance, the Canadian Coast Guard uses a customized NavAids Module that integrates with their existing SIPA system.

  • Can be used to manage information regarding fixed aids as well as floating aids.

  • Up to five drop points can be specified around the vessel with positions specified relative to the antenna location, for extremely accurate placements (most useful where DGPS service is in use).

  • Automatic capture of DGPS, GPS or Loran-C position information into the service details based on the active drop point.

  • Fields for recording the details of "traditional" positioning techniques (horizontal sextant angles, local knowledge, etc).

  • Nav Aid visualization using chart or plotter overlay - includes the advertised position, the most recently recorded position, the vessel, and the vessel's drop point.

  • On Position Radius (swing radius) and Safe Drop Radius (placement tolerance) can be set globally and for each aid.

  • InfoBoxes showing details of active aid.

  • Buoy Tending mode - maximum use of screen real estate, wire frame vessel icon, auto zoom (optional), task-specific movable InfoPanel that includes range and bearing from drop point to aid.

  • Configurable plotter background colour for maximum visibility in all lighting conditions.

  • Using the Point of Interest feature, individual NavAids can be used:

    • as the waypoint in a Quick Route

    • to quickly pan the chart window using Centre on Point

    • to establish a Point Of Interest with a constantly updated range and bearing for activities such as station keeping.

  • The buoy tending process can be enhanced using other ICAN ECS capabilities, such as ARPA target tracking, Radar Overlay (requires ICAN's Radar Module and third party hardware), and vector charts that include buoy information.
